From the time he turned pro 17 years ago after claiming a silver medal at the 2004 Olympics at age 17 until he announced his retirement on Friday, England’s Amir Khan (34-6, 21 KOs) was one of the biggest names in boxing.
He engaged in several exciting and dramatic fights, unified junior welterweight world titles and had some big wins and some brutal losses. But one thing was consistent — he fought a who’s who of his time and never ducked anybody.
I had the opportunity to cover Khan’s entire career and got to know him over the years. So, on Wednesday, a few days after his retirement, we had about a half conversation about his career — the highs, the lows and everything in between. We talked about:
His decision to retire
What he plans to do in the future
Being in the spotlight since he was a teenager
How he views his career
Coming to America
Fighting so many top opponents and even going to their hometowns
His best win and most crushing loss
Not getting the two fights he wanted against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao
The decision to move up to 155 pounds and challenge Canelo Alvarez for the middleweight title and getting badly knocked out
Plus a lot more! Please give it a listen, subscribe to the podcast and enjoy!
