Coming into his fourth defense, IBF flyweight titleholder Sunny Edwards spent more time talking about the unification fight he hoped to have in his fifth rather than Andres Campos, the man in front of him.
Edwards successfully retained the title with little issue in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday at the OVO Arena Wembley in London and then once again looked ahead.
After handily outboxing the aggressive but largely ineffective Campos to win 117-111 on all three scorecards, Edwards turned to the camera and called out WBO counterpart and Matchroom Boxing stablemate Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez to fight him.
“Sign the contract,” Edwards shouted to the camera.
There is a strong likelihood that 112-pound unification fight will happen before the end of the year but first the skillful and very talkative Edwards, who had his first fight since signing with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, had to handle Campos and it went as expected.
