'Bam' takes it up a notch as he challenges WBC 115 champ Estrada
Young star Rodriguez faces best opponent yet in future Hall of Famer

Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez has won titles at junior bantamweight and flyweight; been a fighter of the year candidate; found a home in many top 10 pound-for-pound lists; and soundly defeated quality opponents.
Among those on his resume are decisive wins over Carlos Cuadras and Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (a knockout), who are both former world titleholders, and a tremendous beat down of Sunny Edwards, whom he stopped in the ninth round of his most recent fight in December to unify the WBO and IBF flyweight titles.
At just 24, Rodriguez is already laying impressive building blocks for what may someday be a Hall of Fame career. But in the immediate future Rodriguez will take on what most would view as by far his most formidable opponent in lineal/WBC junior bantamweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada, a probable Hall of Famer, who he squares off with in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card on Saturday (DAZN, 9:30 p.m. ET) at Footprint Center in Phoenix.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription to read the rest of this post and for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
