As the deadline approached on Monday night, WBC interim heavyweight titleholder and mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte still had not signed his bout agreement to challenge champion Tyson Fury and there were concerns in the Fury camp.
Queensberry Promotions’ George Warren, the son of promoter Frank Warren, had been dealing with Whyte’s attorney and also staying in close touch with Top Rank, which co-promotes Fury with Queensberry, to get the paperwork squared away, per WBC rules, multiple sources told Fight Freaks Unite.
According to the sources, this is what went down behind the scenes and resulted in Whyte signing a contract, but still left an open issue related to his tax withholding for Queensberry, Top Rank and the WBC to try to work out with Whyte.
As the time ticked down, Whyte was refusing to sign the contract that had been presented to him and with his attorney out of pocket because he was on a long flight from Asia to the United Kingdom there was mild panic in Fury’s camp that the deadline would be missed.
