From the moment super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga signed to fight Jason Quigley most expected Berlanga to return to his knockout ways against a naturally smaller man who had been stopped in his two losses.

But while Berlanga was unable to record a knockout against the pesky Quigley, he did score four knockdowns and come awfully close to stopping him in a punishing 12th round of a unanimous decision victory in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday night at the sold-out Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Berlanga began his career with 16 consecutive first-round knockouts and got tremendous hype because of the streak, but there has been a power outage since as he has gone the distance in his last five fights, even though he dropped Quigley in the third and fifth rounds and twice in the 12th round of his first scheduled 12-rounder.

Berlanga won 118-106, 116-108 and 116-108 while Fight Freaks Unite had it 114-110 for Berlanga, who was coming off a one-year layoff.
