A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. If you haven’t upgraded to a paid subscription please consider it. If you have already, I truly appreciate it! Also, consider a gift subscription for the Fight Freak in your life.
Since the previous update in mid-April there have been nearly a dozen titles change hands, become vacant, have vacancies filled or interim titles eliminated. Some of the changes: Chris Billam-Smith won the WBO cruiserweight title; Teofimo Lopez won the WBO junior welterweight title and then announced a few days later he had vacated; Mauricio Lara was stripped of the WBA featherweight title for missing weight and Leigh Wood regained the belt the next day by winning their rematch; Joe Cordina regained the IBF junior lightweight title; Alberto Puello was stripped of the WBA junior welterweight title for a positive drug test and Rolando Romero won the vacant belt; Jason Moloney won the vacant WBO bantamweight title; and Oscar Collazo won the WBO strawweight title. Here is your complete guide to every titleholder among the four major sanctioning bodies.
