LAS VEGAS — Canelo Alvarez turned back a spirited challenge from Mexican countryman Jaime Munguia in an action-packed fight to retain the undisputed super middleweight title by unanimous decision on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
With a crowd of 17,492 cheering on and off for both fighters on Cinco de Mayo weekend, Alvarez and Munguia gave them a show in the main event of the PBC on Prime PPV but it was clear that Alvarez had done more than enough to claim victory.
Judge Tim Cheatham had it 117-110, David Sutherland 116-111, and Steve Weisfeld 115-112. Fight Freaks Unite also had it 117-110 for Alvarez, the four-division champion, who made his seventh overall 168-pound defense and fourth of the undisputed crown.
