Junior welterweight contender Jack Catterall, the uncrowned champion in the eyes of many, set himself up for a much bigger fight as he easily outboxed the once-formidable Jorge Linares in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday at M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England.

Catterall won 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112 on scorecards that seemed awfully generous to Linares, a former three-division titleholder, who lost his fourth fight in a row and has not been a factor in the title picture since Vasiliy Lomachenko knocked him out in the 10th round to take his WBA lightweight title in 2018.

Fight Freaks Unite had it 119-109 for Catterall, who won his second fight in a row since a massively controversial loss to then-undisputed champion Josh Taylor in February 2022 on Taylor’s turf in Glasgow, Scotland.

Catterall very much wants a rematch with the now former champion Taylor or a shot at the winner of the fight between WBC titlist Regis Prograis and Devin Haney, who meet on Dec. 9. But first he had to handle Linares, a former featherweight, junior lightweight and lightweight titleholder at the end of his career.

‘Taylor, where are ya? Let’s have it you shithouse,’ — Catterall on Josh Taylor
