A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. If you haven’t upgraded to a paid subscription please consider it. If you have already, I truly appreciate it! Also, consider a gift subscription for the Fight Freak in your life.
Regis Prograis is a two-time junior welterweight world titleholder with the goal to win a third. Jack Catterall lost his only shot by extremely controversial split decision challenging then-undisputed champion Josh Taylor in 2022 and is hungry for another opportunity.
They stand in each other’s way if either is to at least get another shot in the near future. So, while there is no official title eliminator status assigned to their pairing it is one in essence because as two of the bigger names in the division the winner of their 12-rounder will probably get another title shot perhaps as soon as their next bout.
Their fight will headline a Matchroom Boxing card on Saturday (DAZN, 2 p.m. ET) at the new Co-op Live in Manchester, England, a home region fight for Catterall.
Prograis appears to have more on the line than Catterall because of how poorly he has fought in his two most recent bouts, which has left many looking at him as a washed up fighter.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription to read the rest of this post and for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
