Whatever notion Adrien Broner had of a serious comeback to the upper reaches of the welterweight division were dealt a serious blow in the form of a clear decision loss to Blair “The Flair” Cobbs on Friday night in the main event of promoter Don King’s “Fists of Fury” pay-per-view card at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
Cobbs, coming off a 22-month layoff, knocked the former four-division world titleholder down hard in the second round and won 97-91, 96-93 and 96-93 for the biggest win of his career.
Broner, the self-titled “Can man,” appears as though he just can’t any more.
Coming off a one-year layoff and having had many issues outside the ring, be it substance abuse, financial or legal, Broner has been in decline for years and is now 2-3-1 in his last five fights dating to his decision loss to Mikey Garcia in a 2017 junior welterweight fight.
Cobbs outhustled, outpunched and outfought him throughout the fight.
