Sebastian Fundora won an upset split decision over Tim Tszyu on Saturday night to take his WBO junior middleweight title and claim the vacant WBC belt in a fight that looked like a horror movie because of the gruesome amount of blood that flowed freely from both men.
For virtually the entire fight they were covered head to toe and front and back in each other’s blood as they squared off for high stakes in the pay-per-view main event of the first Premier Boxing Champions event with new partner Prime Video before an announced crowd of 14,726 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Judges David Sutherland (115-113) and Steve Weisfeld (116-112) scored it for Fundora and Tim Cheatham had it 116-112 for Tszyu, the son of Hall of Fame former undisputed junior welterweight champion Kostya Tszyu. Fight Freaks Unite scored the fight 114-114.
“We’ve been praying for this moment for a long time and I’m just happy that Tim Tszyu gave me the opportunity and my opportunity became my dream come true,” Fundora said.
Fundora made a bit of history as he joined younger sister Gabriela Fundora, who won the IBF women’s flyweight title in October, as a world champion to become the first brother-sister duo in boxing history to hold world titles at the same time.
