Jermall Charlo, who had been out of the ring for 29 months, first due to a back injury and then because of mental health issues and other personal problems, looked sharp in his return on Saturday night.
Charlo, who holds the WBC middleweight title, dominated the much smaller Jose Benavidez Jr. in a nontitle bout that served as the co-feature on the Premier Boxing Champions card on Showtime PPV that was headlined by the David Benavidez-Demetrius Andrade super middleweight fight at Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Charlo won 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 in his first fight since a title defense against Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021.
