Unheralded underdog Sean McComb used his longer reach, a good jab and plenty of right hands to keep Arnold Barboza at bay and off balance for most of their junior welterweight fight, but Barboza wound up with a split decision victory in the co-feature of the Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia Golden Boy card on DAZN PPV Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
When the fight ended, Barboza and his corner wore the look of defeat on their faces until the scores were read: 98-92 for McComb but Barboza stunningly getting the nod 97-93 and 96-94 to maintain his position as the WBO’s No. 1 contender at 140 pounds.
But it was a big-time struggle for Barboza.
