The homecoming has been a long time coming for Keyshawn Davis, the rising lightweight contender.
Once Top Rank, his promoter, determined that Davis was ready to headline his own card it made plans to bring him home to fight in Norfolk, Virginia, which he has wanted all along.
That dream will come true when Davis takes on Gustavo Lemos, the most notable opponent of his career, in the main event of the Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+ card on Friday (ESPN+, 6:20 p.m. ET) at Scope Arena, a 10,000-seat venue Top Rank said this week only had scattered single tickets available.
The event doesn’t just represent the homecoming Davis has yearned for. It will be a family affair. Older brother Kelvin Davis and younger brother Keon Davis also are on the card.
“Well, me and my brothers been talking about this since we was amateur, since we was in middle school, high school,” Davis told Fight Freaks Unite. “So we were going to do this with what company we landed on. I don’t care whoever it was. Thank God we land on Top Rank, one of the best companies in the business. The very first day we sat down with Top Rank — me, my big brother Kelvin, my mother — we was talking about a homecoming. So we already had a vision for this and we made it happen.”
