Luis Alberto Lopez is from Mexico but he owns the United Kingdom.
Yet again, Lopez went on the road and scored a big-time victory on his opponent’s home turf, this time destroying Michael Conlan with a sensational right uppercut in the fifth round to retain the IBF featherweight title in the main event of the Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+ card on Saturday at a raucous SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Conlan’s hometown.
“I had a great training camp but I had some little issues in the locker room. I was a little nervous but we got the win and I am very happy for it,” Lopez said through an interpreter. “Michael Conlan underestimated my power. I’m more powerful than him, stronger than him and have more speed and (better) footwork.”
He indeed showed all of those attributes in a dominating performance as he retained his 126-pound belt for the first time.
