Lightweight contender Frank Martin goes by “The Ghost” as his nickname but it was Artem Harutyunyan who gave him a scare in the Premier Boxing Champions main event on Showtime on Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Fighting in a WBC title eliminator to move a step closer to a mandatory title shot, Martin got all he could handle from Harutyunyan in a close fight that Martin closed with a knockdown in the 12th round, although it was not one he needed to escape with a unanimous decision via scores of 115-112, 115-112 and 114-113.
Cheered at ringside by his promoter and gym mate, Errol Spence Jr., who is finishing his training camp in Las Vegas ahead of his showdown with Terence Crawford for the undisputed welterweight title on July 29, Martin was the clear winner of four rounds with the rest of them being very close.
