Julio Cesar Martinez retained the WBC flyweight title for the sixth time with a tougher-than-expected 11th-round knockout of Ronal Batista on Saturday night in the co-feature of the Canelo Alvarez-John Ryder undisputed super middleweight title fight at Akron Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It was a good action fight and Batista, a heavy underdog, was game all the way and had his moments but Martinez proved too much for him.
Martinez closed the show in the 11th round when he forced Batista to the ropes and landed an avalanche of punches. As Batista sagged into the ropes and appeared out on his feet, referee Celestino Ruiz stepped in and waved off the fight at 1 minute.
