Bet on boxing at BetUS

One world title was vacated (featherweight), two purse bids were held (welterweight and strawweight) and one was postponed (women’s junior lightweight) as the WBA, celebrating its 100th anniversary, had a busy Monday at its annual convention, which runs through Wednesday at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

Here are all the details on what went down, including the two biggest turn of events: Leo Santa Cruz vacating the featherweight title and Golden Boy winning the purse bid for the fight between WBA “regular” welterweight titlist Eimantas Stanionis and mandatory challenger Vergil Ortiz Jr.:

Featherweight: The saga of the organization’s featherweight title concluded with Santa Cruz — who hadn’t defended since February 2019 while occasionally boxing at junior lightweight — vacating the “super” title on the day there was supposed to be a purse bid for the mandatory fight with “regular” titlist Leigh Wood, who now is the lone WBA featherweight titleholder.
