The WBC on Tuesday stripped Jermall Charlo of its middleweight world title, a move that came the day after he was arrested in Pearland, Texas, and charged with three misdemeanors.
When Charlo was stripped, interim titleholder Carlos Adames was elevated to full titleholder, coincidentally on his 30th birthday.
The charges against Charlo relate to driving while intoxicated, fleeing from police and leaving the scene of an accident involving more than $200 in damage, according to the Pearland Police Department.
Charlo (33-0, 22 KOs), 33, of Houston, whose blood alcohol level was 0.15 — the legal limit is .08 in Texas — was released on a $9,500 surety bond.
