Finally, Ryan Garcia posted to social media what surely most boxing fans must have been thinking by now.
“Ryan Garcia vs. Oscar De La Hoya at this point,” Garcia wrote on X (the former Twitter) on Thursday, adding a shrugging emoji to the end of the post.
That about sums up the seemingly never-ending dysfunctional relationship between the star junior welterweight and the Golden Boy Promotions CEO and former six-division world champion.
A day earlier, De La Hoya posted to X, “Looking like Ryan Garcia vs. Jose Ramirez is getting close and happening.” He wrote the post apparently without ever having gotten the OK from Garcia to pursue the fight.
Ramirez (28-1, 18 KOs), a former unified junior welterweight titleholder, recently split from Top Rank and signed last week with Golden Boy, and De La Hoya is looking to set up his next fight, which is ticketed for the spring. Garcia, of course, is the biggest name in the division and now they share a promoter.
But De La Hoya’s comment seemed a bit off.
