It has been Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom who has secretly spearheaded recent discussions with Premier Boxing Champions on behalf of Chris Eubank Jr. for a potential Sept. 14 shot at undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, but on Wednesday the alliance was made public.
Regardless of whether he lands the Alvarez fight — and he is one of the leading candidates along with unbeaten Puerto Rican contender Edgar Berlanga — Eubank has signed a promotional deal with Boxxer, which the company called “a career-defining partnership deal that will see one of the biggest personalities in boxing aim to redefine the global boxing landscape.”
Perhaps that is overly dramatic, but in making the announcement Boxxer made clear it hopes to line up Eubank for a fight with Alvarez and even Terence Crawford, the former undisputed welterweight champion set to make his debut in the junior middleweight division to challenge WBA titlist Israil Madrimov on Aug. 3.
Other targets include British countrymen Conor Benn in a fight that was previously canceled due to Benn’s failed drug tests and a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders, who beat Eubank by split decision in a 2014 European, British and Commonwealth middleweight title fight.
