Eimantas Stanionis, the WBA “regular” welterweight titleholder, and mandatory challenger Vergil Ortiz Jr. have an official date and site for their toss-up showdown.
They will headline a Golden Boy card on April 29 on DAZN at the College Park Center on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, Texas, Golden Boy announced on Monday.
It amounts a home fight for Ortiz, who is from nearby Grand Prairie, Texas.
The fight was originally planned for March 18 in the same region but was postponed before it had been formally announced because Stanionis had to undergo an emergency appendectomy in early January.
“Vergil asked for this fight, so here we are,” Stanionis said. “I feel like this is going to be a special fight. We have mutual respect as competitors but make no mistake — it’s going to be an absolute war.”
