Although Matchroom Boxing shockingly did not win the purse bid earlier this month for IBF welterweight titlist Jaron “Boots” Ennis’ mandatory defense against Karen Chukhadzhian, it is trying to work out a deal with his promoter, German outfit P2M-Box Promotion, that would allow it to bring the fight to Ennis’ hometown of Philadelphia to headline a DAZN card on Nov. 9, sources told Fight Freaks Unite.
While the prospect of a rematch between Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs), 27, and Chukhadzhian (24-2, 13 KOs), 28, of Ukraine, is about as unappealing as it gets, considering Chukhadzhian has little accomplishment, little name recognition and Ennis already won a shutout decision against him to claim the interim belt in January 2023, Matchroom is looking to beef up the card by adding another one of its top young stars to the show in a title defense.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
