A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. If you haven’t upgraded to a paid subscription please consider it. If you have already, I truly appreciate it! Also, consider a gift subscription for the Fight Freak in your life.
Super middleweight up-and-comer Diego Pacheco, who was the 2023 Fight Freaks Unite prospect of the year, continued his development in 2024.
He won both of his bouts and in his second fight, which was in August, Pacheco became the first man to knock out veteran contender and former title challenger Maciej Sulecki, doing so in the sixth round.
Now Pacheco aims to take his game to the next level in 2025, which he will kick off with a 12-round regional title bout against Steven Nelson in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card on Saturday (DAZN, 8 p.m. ET) at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
“It excites me to look ahead to the next 12 months,” Pacheco said at a recent media workout. “I have a lot of hunger to keep working and keep preparing for these new challenges like the one (against Nelson). That’s basically it — just lock in and be ready for the new year and whatever challenge comes my way.”
