Ryan Garcia announced in an Instagram video on Wednesday night that he has signed for his next fight, the expected shot at WBC welterweight titleholder Mario Barrios.
“It’s been a long day but I promised you guys I would have this video for you — my next fight announcement,” Garcia said as he sat down at a table with a WBC belt next to him, presumably the interim lightweight strap he briefly held in 2021. “Here’s the contract like I promised you guys. … Boom, here I go. Signed. I am going to be fighting for the real WBC championship belt against Mario Barrios, Feb. 21. Get ready, cause I’m coming.”
That is indeed the date for the pay-per-view fight, which would take place in Las Vegas. However, both sides told Fight Freaks Unite that the deal is not quite done yet even if Garcia has signed what likely is a bout agreement.
