Amanda Serrano is not only still the undisputed women’s featherweight champion, but she is also a trailblazer.
Serrano rolled to an all-action but shutout decision win over the game Danila Ramos to retain her belts in the main event of the Most Valuable Promotions card on Friday night on DAZN at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. All three judges scored it 120-108.
But Serrano’s masterful performance, in which she threw more than 1,000 punches against WBO interim titleholder and mandatory challenger Ramos, made a bit of boxing history as Serrano won a fight scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds. That is just like a men’s title fight, as opposed to 10 two-minute round fights that are standard for women.
Serrano and her team, including manager/trainer Jordan Maldonado and promoters Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian of MVP — with co-operation from the Florida Athletic Commission — were able to have the fight contested under the same rules as a men’s title bout with Ramos happy to go along with it.
