The long slog to finalize Gervonta Davis against Ryan Garcia — one of the biggest fights boxing can offer — is inching closer to reality but it still has not been finalized with one involved party telling Fight Freaks Unite late Monday that there had been a “hiccup” that day in bringing the agonizing deal making process to a conclusion.
It was back on Nov. 17 that a Garcia publicist blasted a press release to boxing media proclaiming in the headline: “IT’S ON! Superstars Ryan Garcia and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis To Finally Face Each Other in 136 Pound Catchweight Fight in Las Vegas.”
That was three months ago last week and the fight was not then, nor is it now, signed, despite a report that the fighters had signed contracts. Three sources directly involved in making the deal — and representing both sides — told Fight Freaks Unite on Monday the fight was not yet set. Two of them also explained one of the final hurdles remaining.
