Tim Tszyu, the former WBO junior middleweight titleholder and once widely viewed as the best fighter in the world at 154 pounds, is now fighting to salvage his career.
He is mired in a 1-3 rut, having been stopped in two of the three fights, once by massive upset third-round knockout challenging IBF titlist Bakhram Murtazaliev, who dropped Tszyu four times in October 2024, and when he got dropped in the first round, cut over his right eye and battered into submission as he retired on his stool after the seventh round in a rematch challenging WBC titleholder Sebastian Fundora in July in the Manny Pacquiao-Mario Barrios co-feature.
Tszyu (25-3, 18 KOs), 31, whose three losses have taken place in the United States, will be back home at ICC Sydney Theatre in his hometown of Sydney, Australia, to face Anthony Velazquez in a 10-round middleweight bout that headlines a No Limit Boxing card on Wednesday.
Tszyu goes into the fight in the comforts of home against an opponent he is supposed to beat and with a new trainer in his corner.
