For years, a showdown between heavyweight stars Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua has been one of boxing’s most anticipated fights and they discussed making it more than once, including when they were undefeated titleholders and the showdown would have been for the undisputed crown.
However, they could never quite get it done until — finally! — in recent days they agreed to all terms and eventually signed contracts to fight on March 9 but with one hurdle remaining before it could become reality.
They had previously agreed to fight different opponents on the same card and neither man could lose on the “Day of Reckoning” mega DAZN PPV card on Saturday at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the same location where they would have squared off against each other.
However, Joseph Parker, another former heavyweight titleholder, had his say so in the matter, authoring a shockingly dominating one-sided decision win over an entirely ineffective Wilder in the co-feature.
Parker, with the perfect game plan installed by trainer Andy Lee, fought as disciplined a fight as possible and never allowed Wilder to come close to landing his calling-card right hand, which is one of the most destructive weapons in boxing history.
