It’s a low-key weekend but there are still fights to preview and we did that, including Richardson Hitchins’ IBF junior welterweight title defense against George Kambosos Jr. There is also my interview with WBO welterweight titleholder Brian Norman ahead of his upcoming title defense in Japan. We also covered the most notable news of the week and looked back on the anniversary of a controversial mega fight.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Preview of Hitchins’ first defense against former unified lightweight champion Kambosos in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday. We also previewed the co-feature, an IBF lightweight title eliminator between Andy Cruz and Hironori Mishiro.
Preview of the return of Nonito Donaire, who faces Andres Campos for the vacant WBA interim bantamweight title on Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
My interview with Norman ahead of his first 147-pound title defense against Japanese contender on June 19 (ESPN+) in Tokyo.
I am in my 26th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription for full access to all posts and comments — and support independent journalism.
Announcement that the mega fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will stream live globally on Netflix, not on pay-per-view.
A July 30 world title tripleheader headlined by WBC/WBA flyweight champion Kenshiro Teraji against Ricardo Rafael Sandoval.
My reporting that Edwin De Los Santos will receive half of his purse as compensation for his WBO lightweight title shot against Keyshawn Davis being canceled after the weigh-in because Davis missed weight by 4.3 pounds.
Golden Boy’s announcement of an excellent junior welterweight fight between contenders Oscar Duarte and Kenneth Sims Jr. on Aug. 2 on DAZN in Sims’ hometown of Chicago.
The nostalgia segments are available on the YouTube channel, so please subscribe. Ringside memories on the 36th anniversary of the long-awaited and fantastic rematch between all-time legends Sugar Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns, who scored two knockdowns in what was ruled a controversial draw as Leonard retained the WBC super middleweight title.
