Podcast: Devin Haney interview, latest on the Fury-Joshua saga, Floyd's exhibitions
Plus: Andrade's latest withdrawal vs. Parker and Nery's return
A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. If you haven’t upgraded to a paid subscription please consider it. If you have already, I truly appreciate it! Also, consider a gift subscription for the Fight Freak in your life.
It’s an awfully slow weekend with the only fight of remote note being the return of former bantamweight and junior featherweight titlist Luis Nery in a stay-busy fight against David Carmona on Saturday in Mexico. We touch on that and also discuss other stuff. There is also my interview with undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney as he gets ready for his rematch with former unified champion George Kambosos Jr. in Australia in two weeks.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
A little chit chat: TJ being near Hurricane Ian (he’s OK), Aaron Judge’s historic season, and a little more.
The latest of the absurd Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua negotiations and Fury’s unhinged behavior.
Floyd Mayweather’s next exhibition being set just days after he scored a knockout in an exhibition this past weekend in Japan. TJ questions if Floyd is tarnishing his legacy by doing these exhibitions so I slap him down.
My exclusive interview with Haney. We discussed his thoughts on returning to Australia for the rematch with Kambosos; his performance in the first fight; expectations in the second fight; thoughts on a possible fight with Vasiliy Lomachenko next if they both win their upcoming bouts; his view of the loaded lightweight division he rules; thoughts on a potential Tank Davis-Ryan Garcia fight; and how much longer he thinks he will remain at 135 pounds.
Our discussion of Demetrius Andrade once again backing out of an interim super middleweight title bout with Zach Parker and what the heck is he doing? I also explain the purse bid situation for that fight and why it likely prompted Andrade to withdraw. Good lesson about how purse bids work.
A brief discussion of Nery’s return against Carmona as he goes for a second win in a row and tries to set up a possible title shot against unified titlist Stephen Fulton.

I see no issue with Fury's public posts - they are entertaining and keeping boxing fans informed from his own mouth.
We are dealing with well experienced and advised parties. There is no duress involved.
Perhaps Fury should have plan B in place. I am sure he has. He wants to biff on 3 Dec regardless. Therefore, he needs plan B in case AJ ducked him like he ducked Wilder.
The parties had notice the moment AJ conditionally accepted TF's offer on social media and therefore they should have proceeded with haste knowing that time was of the essence. TF said he signed Wilder 1 within 24 hours. 14 days are a long time for experienced pros.
