Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off a weekend that boasted three fights of significance: Teofimo Lopez’s very shaky decision over Sandor Martin, Terence Crawford’s big knockout of David Avanesyan to retain his welterweight title and Luis Alberto Lopez’s upset over Josh Warrington to take his featherweight title. We recapped and dissected all three fights and much more!
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Lopez’s split decision over Martin in a WBC final junior welterweight title eliminator. What to make of the scoring? Should Martin have been credited for one knockdown, two, none? What does the future hold for Lopez at 140 pounds? Do changes need to be made? We got into all of it.
The excellent performances of Top Rank’s three best prospects, all possible future stars, on the Lopez-Martin undercard: heavyweight Jared Anderson, who blew away Jerry Forrest in the second round of a step-up fight and junior middleweight Xander Zayas and lightweight Keyshawn Davis, who both won one-sided eight-round decisions against very solid opponents.
Crawford’s highlight-reel sixth-round KO of Avanesyan, the big crowd support Crawford received and now can the Errol Spence Jr. fight finally be made?
Manny Pacquiao’s domination of YouTuber/martial artist DK Yoo in an exhibition in South Korea and was he laying the groundwork for a return for a real boxing match?
Lopez’s excellent victory over Warrington, who fought dirty and finished strong but didn’t do enough to retain his featherweight title. What does the future hold for both fighters?
Previewing Tuesday unification fight for the undisputed bantamweight championship between Naoya Inoue and gargantuan underdog Paul Butler.
Featherweight contender Michael Conlan’s first-round knockout of Karim Guerfi in front of the Belfast hometown crowd. Might he be in line to challenge Top Rank stablemate Luis Alberto Lopez for his newly acquired world title?
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
