The main fights of the weekend were all women’s world title bouts and we recapped and discussed them, including Mikaela Mayer’s close decision over Sandy Ryan in a rousing slugfest. There is also my in-depth interview with promoter Frank Warren on many topics with a focus on his fighter Daniel Dubois’ recent massive knockout of Anthony Joshua. There is also news of the week and a look back on the anniversary of two major fights I covered at ringside.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of Mayer’s big over Ryan to win the WBO welterweight title, including the incident before the fight that saw a stranger accost Ryan by throwing an open can of paint on her; the fight; the scoring; and the future.
Recap of the other fights on Top Rank’s card: junior middleweight Xander Zayas’s sharp domination of Damian Sosa in a shutout win in the co-feature; featherweight Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington’s debatable majority decision over Sulaiman Segawa; and the superb KO performance of impressive welterweight prospect Rohan Polanco in one of the prelims.
Recap of undisputed junior lightweight champion Alycia Baumgardner’s no contest against Delfine Persoon and Terri Harper’s decision over Rhiannon Dixon to win the WBO lightweight title.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
Devin Haney suing Ryan Garcia for battery related to his PED usage in their April fight, as well as suing Golden Boy Promotions and the strength and conditioning coach Garcia worked with during fight week.
My extended interview with Warren, and we covered a lot: His thoughts Dubois recent crushing KO of Joshua to retain the IBF heavyweight title, his excellent three-fight run following a harsh KO loss to Oleksandr Usyk, and what might be next; Fury’s preparation for the Usyk rematch; Warren’s fighters dominating fighters promoted by rival Eddie Hearn; an update and thoughts on rising middleweight star Hamzah Sheeraz off his recent win; WBA featherweight titlist Nick Ball and his defense this coming Saturday; starting to sign American fighters and other non-Brits and plans to begin promoting events in the United States.
Ringside memories on the 23rd anniversary of when Bernard Hopkins notched the defining victory of his legendary career when he dominated and stopped fellow Hall of Famer Felix Trinidad in the 12th round to become the undisputed middleweight champion at Madison Square Garden in a fight that had been postponed for two weeks due to the tragic 9/11 attacks.
Ringside memories on the 17th anniversary of when Kelly Pavlik got off the deck to score a sensational knockout of Jermain Taylor in their first fight to win the lineal/unified middleweight title in a dramatic fight of the year candidate.

Excellent coverage and a great interview with Frank Warren. As I recall, he said something pretty nasty to Dan, but it seems like all that is water under the bridge and that interview is chock full of boxing tidbits for days!🙏
Great fight, i had Mayer edging it and its time a close decision went her way. Ryan will come again and hopefully they catch the cowardly POS who threw paint on her.
