Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off the first notable fight weekend of 2023. We recapped and discussed the full Gervonta Davis-Hector Luis Garcia Showtime PPV event, which I covered in person Saturday night, how it sets up Davis for a mega fight with Ryan Garcia in April and much more. We also went over some news of the week.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Everything you need to know about Davis’ TKO of Garcia: the crowd, the atmosphere, the fight at ringside during the bout, Davis’ performance and the planned Davis-Ryan Garcia fight for April 15.
The absurd and entirely unacceptable fact that that the pacing of the card was horrible, culminating with the main event starting at 1 a.m. ET. Not good. We have our say.
Jaron “Boots” Ennis’ shutout decision over Karen Chukhadzhian to claim an interim welterweight title and Ennis going past six rounds for the first time.
Roiman Villa’s dramatic decision over Rashidi Ellis in their welterweight eliminator thanks to two knockdowns in the 12th round. Good decision or nah? And my shout out to Sampson Lewkowicz, who brought Villa to the U.S.
Demetrius Andrade’s return for a shutout decision in his super middleweight debut, including two knockdowns, against Demond Nicholson and what it could lead to.
My sadness watching Lamont Peterson come out of a nearly four-year retirement to fight a six-rounder buried on the undercard in his hometown and showing nothing as he got beat up and stopped by journeyman Michael Ogundo.
The postponement of the excellent match between secondary welterweight titlist Eimantas Stanionis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. being postponed because Stanionis had to undergo an emergency appendectomy.
The dumpster fire start to 2023 with three notable fights already being postponed.
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and Cristian Gonzalez are due to for a vacant flyweight title on April 8 (DAZN) in Rodriguez’s hometown of San Antonio.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
We will be bringing you the weekend recap each Monday. Let me know what you think of the podcast by leaving your comments.

ROH/AEW had a major wrestling PPV recent;y that started at 2 pm pacific and I didn’t fall asleep once. It was fantastic.
For the promoter and commission to allow a 12-bout card was wrong. It was the fans disappointment and the main 4 bouts on Showtime waiting in the dressing rooms for hours. Not a good night for boxing.
