Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off a weekend that had two highly significant fights: Tyson Fury’s heavyweight championship defense against Derek Chisora in their third fight and the rubber match between junior bantamweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez. We did full recaps and discussed both bouts as well as undercard fights and also hit on a few news of the week items.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Fury’s absolutely one-sided 10th-round destruction of Chisora in a disgraceful and grotesque fight that should never have been made in the first place. Yeah, I went off hard, especially on Chisora’s corner, which didn’t seem to care if their man lived or died. That said, my thoughts on the warrior spirit of Chisora, Fury’s post-fight confrontation with Oleksandr Usyk, who is the likely next opponent for the undisputed title, and the possibility Fury may first need surgery on the right elbow injury he said he had after the bout.
Daniel Dubois’ disappointing performance in a third-round knockout of Kevin Lerena to retain his secondary heavyweight belt. But what about the three knockdowns Dubois suffered in the first round, in part due to an apparent leg injury, and his shaky stoppage win? What’s that say about his future? How about the first-round bell sounding with 10 seconds left, which was huge for the damaged Dubois? And how about the referee’s weak stoppage after the bell had ended the round?
The train wreck ESPN production of Dubois-Lerena, that included cutting away from the end of the first round to an interview with Fury in the dressing room that had no audio but did have audio of Dubois’ corner playing instead, the lack of any replays of the first-round knockdowns and no recognition of the leg injury or early end of the first round.
The excellent trilogy fight between Estrada and Chocolatito, but who really deserved the victory and what might be next for both, including the prospect of a fourth fight?
My thoughts the undercard performances of WBC flyweight titlist Julio Cesar Martinez, former flyweight titlist Cristofer Rosales’ upset of Joselito Velazquez in a very good fight as well as a trio of prospects who looked good in wins: super middleweight Diego Pacheco, lightweight Marc Castro and middleweight Austin Williams.
Some news of the week, including a date change for the Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall junior welterweight title rematch and the date that is now penciled in for the super middleweight clash between Caleb Plant and David Benavidez, which looks like it will be one of an overload of PBC pay-per-views in the works for the first part of 2023.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
We will be bringing you the weekend recap each Monday. Let me know what you think of the podcast by leaving your comments.

DAZN didn't kill PPV in the USA. But the PBC may have with it's Carpet Bombing of PPVs lol. How much did Showtime spend on it's regular non PPV fight cards in 2022? Maybe $25m? Pathetic when compared to DAZN or ESPN. Especially for a crew that considers themselves the almighty "A" side in any discussion of a cross promotion.
