Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off a light weekend that included featherweight contender Mauricio Lara’s big KO on in the main event of the Matchroom Boxing card on DAZN on Saturday night and a “ShoBox” card on Friday night on Showtime. We recap those cards and also look at the most recent boxing news, including the disappointing decision by Terence Crawford to pass on the Errol Spence Jr. showdown to instead face David Avanesyan.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
We review super middleweight Sena Agbeko’s mild upset of Isaiah Steen in the “ShoBox” main event as well as the two other bouts on the telecast.
We discuss Lara’s third-round knockout of Jose Sanmartin and the probability that he set himself up for a title fight, either a trilogy bout with Josh Warrington or for the fight with Leigh Wood that was called off due to Wood’s injury.
The impressive performance of 20-year-old lightweight Floyd Schofield, who looked great in a first-round knockout win on Thursday night in his first fight since signing with Golden Boy. The kid looks like somebody to keep an eye on.
The announcement that heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte will return from his April knockout loss challenging Tyson Fury for the title to face unbeaten American Jermaine Franklin on Nov. 26.
Word that heavyweight prospect Jared Anderson, who is scheduled to return Dec. 10 on the Teofimo Lopez-Jose Pedraza card, will step up his competition to face tough, experienced Jerry Forrest.
Top Rank’s announcement that it has signed lightweight Emiliano Vargas, the 18-year-old son of former two-time junior middleweight titleholder Fernando Vargas.
Showtime and PBC’s announcement that David Morrell will defend the WBA “regular” super middleweight title against mandatory challenger Aidos Yerbossynuly in the main event of a Nov. 5 tripleheader.
Discussion of the super disappointing announcement that Crawford will fight Avanesyan on Dec. 10 on an obscure streaming platform rather than finalize the fight with Spence that boxing fans have long hoped for. What a mess.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
We will be bringing you the weekend recap each Monday. Let me know what you think of the podcast by leaving your comments.

"We Boxing Fans continue to be taking advantage of over and over........"
And then you dont get the whole write up unless you are a paid subscriber, could not even finish the article unless you are a paid subscriber......kind of ironic is it not ? I am sure there are reasons people can give for putting out your thoughts online and wanting money for them. I am sure there are reasons why fight fans do not get the fights that really matter. I am sure there are allways reasons for what people do, is that not the way of the world anymore.????
Of course I hit the guy in the face your honor, but he reminded me of this time when I was a little boy and it just felt like I had to do it , I am not responsible in any way, you understand now as long as there is a reason I am not part of the problem or responsible for my actions..
Yes I made loans but that was because I did not have money to go to school at the time and I wanted to get a good job but now I do not want to pay the money back, jezz what do you want to do have me act responsible for my actions, I had a hard life, I enjoy having money can not the government or someone pay it back for me. I mean I can not give the knowledge back. Ah the story of an educated dummy continues....
When I said that to the person in question, well I was drunk and it don't count when your are drunk right ? Well yes your honor I hit her too but that was after I hollered at her, and like I said I was DRUNK give me a break your Honor ..........
Everybody has got there hand in the pocket of the fight fan, no body is supposed to think for themselves, we are all just happy idiots and do not notice what is happening just victims of the world at large, yea that sounds good in court or anytime anywhere something happens.
Everybody is upset about a fight not happening but why are the boxing writers, the Podcasters so upset with boxing ? Are they finally realizing that they too are being played, nobody wants to look stupid and taken for granted esp in the public eye. No they are all just looking out for the fight fans, just hoping to point out some mis-step made by the Promoters or the people in boxing who are not living up to there expectations, but it has nothing to do with money, or ratings or likes or whatever the hell else people are a slave to that makes them feel worth it.
Now if only the fight fan would put Boxing First, if only the fight fan would realize that it is the Fight Fan who Drives Boxing not the promoters not the Platforms not the writers not the bag men, no it is the fan himself who drives boxing. Why bc boxing is only about itself, boxing only anseres to boxing nobody else but itself. But boxing has become greedy and selfish, and full of itself. And this is what we get for going along with it. You want to change boxing change your buying habits look at what you get for PPV APP or a stupid PPV fight 85 dollars because someone else made you think you had to see it. And everyone you look up to in boxing those promoters those writers who express what the Promoters say told you it would be great, told you not to miss it and every fan agreed.
Until fight fans back up and look at the big picture, then nothing will change. Was a time when Lenard fought Duran and nobody had to be told it would be a good fight we knew we were willing to wait and watch but is Fury's next apponent anything like what we watched on closed cuircuit TV back then. The system is broken the promoters and platforms and all there mouth pieces are laughing and looking the other way towards the bank looking towards the bank. Fight Fans know your the driver. Think about it or dont and continue to get abused and used in fantasy fight world.
Awwww did some people get there feelings hurt bc they trusted the liars again. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Simple as that......
Just some thoughts on this climate of everyone getting upset about the Spence Crawford fight, after talking like you all knew it was going to happen and telling fhe fans oh it is coming. So now boxing is mean and cruel and money hungry and not very nice people to be around.
Forget about it, it is like being hungry no one cares about the people who are hungry until they do not have a big plate of food in front of themsleves then oh man this is so unfair where is my plate of food at. Now it matters bc it is happening to me.
Crawford is more interested in making money than taking a risk from fighting Spence
