Canelo/Turki deal, more news of the week; fight anniversary memories

There was just one notable fight over the weekend, heavyweight Derek Chisora’s entertaining decision over Otto Wallin and we recapped it. There is also my interview with former heavyweight titlist Joseph Parker, who will challenge IBF titlist Daniel Dubois on Feb. 22, discussion of Canelo Alvarez’s new deal and more news of the week, as well as a look back on the anniversary of a significant fight.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of British fan favorite Chisora’s impressive performance in a crowd-pleasing decision over Wallin, who he dropped twice, and what might be next for Chisora, who says he will fight just one more time in his 50th fight before retiring.
My interview with Parker ahead of the challenge against Dubois in the co-feature of the Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol rematch in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Joe and I covered a lot: His mentality of being willing to fight anyone; his thoughts on Dubois and his excellent recent run; Joe’s own excellent recent run that includes wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang in his last two bouts; ruining the plans for Wilder against Anthony Joshua; what linking up with trainer Andy Lee has meant to his career; what he would want to do next if he prevails against Dubois; and more.
I am in my 26th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription for full access to all posts and comments — and support independent journalism.
The whirlwind weekend that resulted in Canelo Alvarez walking away from a Jake Paul fight to make a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh that will commence in May in Saudi Arabia with a fight against William Scull for the undisputed junior middleweight title to be followed by a September fight in Las Vegas against Terence Crawford.
My reporting on the David Benavidez-David Morrell pay-per-view numbers.
My reporting that heavyweights Joe Joyce and Dillian Whyte will meet in April in the main event of the first show of Queensberry’s deal with DAZN with a heavyweight bout between Lawrence Okolie and Richard Riakporhe ticketed for the co-feature.
Memories on the 34th anniversary of when Sugar Ray Leonard came out of yet another retirement and unfortunately challenged Terry Norris, a fellow Hall of Famer and rising star at the time, for his WBC junior middleweight title and got dropped twice and dominated in a one-sided decision loss that was his only career appearance on Showtime or at Madison Square Garden.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!

Looking forward to hearing this! The Crawford/Paul/Crawford weekend it’s just classic boxing!
I was at the Sugar Ray Leonard, Terry Norris fight.
Our current president was there. There was confetti at the end and it all stuck to his hairsprayed coiff. He looked like a clown.
