Saturday will see something I am not sure has ever happened in boxing history — the culmination of two trilogies on the same day, one at heavyweight and one at least 125 pounds lighter at junior bantamweight. There are two significant cards, an ESPN+/BT Sports Box Office show headlined by heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s third fight with Derek Chisora in London and a DAZN card topped by lineal junior bantamweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada against Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in Glendale, Arizona. We previewed both but there’s much more on the show, including my interviews with both Estrada and Gonzalez as well as one with former lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez, who is back in action headlining Top Rank’s ESPN card on Dec. 10.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
A preview of Estrada-Gonzalez III in what most expect will be yet another fantastic battle.
My interviews with Gonzalez and then Estrada, who discuss their relationship with each other, what their fights with each other have meant to their careers and could we see a fourth fight regardless of what happens Saturday?
A preview of Fury-Chisora III and why we’re seeing a fight most view as pointless since Fury has already beaten Chisora twice with ease. And will a Fury win lead to a fight with Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed title?
A look at the Fury-Chisora co-feature, which matches WBA “regular” heavyweight titlist Daniel Dubois in his first defense against Kevin Lerena and what to expect in that bout.
A conversation with British writer David Payne, who focuses on the heavyweight division. He gives his take on Fury-Chisora and other matters in the division.
The bank issue — not a promoter problem — that kept Regis Prograis waiting for his purse money from his junior welterweight title win over Jose Zepeda for a few extra days.
My interview with Lopez, who is preparing for his second junior welterweight fight in a WBC final eliminator against Sandor Martin. We covered plenty of topics, including his excitement to headline at Madison Square Garden for the first time; his report card on his 140-pound debut in August; making the switch from original opponent Jose Pedraza (who was ill) to a southpaw in Martin; thoughts on a possible eventual mandatory fight with Prograis; and Lopez’s thoughts on the planned big fight near his weight between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
