This is a very busy boxing weekend with the biggest fight being Josh Taylor’s defense of the lineal/WBO junior welterweight title against former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. There is also Jaime Munguia taking on Sergiy Derevyanchenko at super middleweight; Sunny Edwards defending his flyweight title versus Andres Campos; the return of Adrien Broner against Bill Hutchinson; a “ShoBox” tripleheader; and the International Boxing Hall of Fame inductions on Sunday. We talked about all of it, covered several news items and looked back on the anniversaries of three notable fights.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
We pay our respects to the all-time great pro wrester the Iron Sheik, the Legend of the Earth, who died this week.
Previewing the return of four-division titlist Adrien Broner against Bill Hutchinson, whom he faces in a welterweight bout on Friday night on FITE in his bout since signing with Don King.
Previewing Showtime’s “ShoBox” card on Friday night headlined by an interesting match between undefeated light heavyweights Ali Izmailov and Charles Foster.
Previewing Taylor-Lopez in a fight that both men enter with a lot of question marks because of their most recent performances. We also examined the prospect-laden undercard.
Previewing Munguia-Derevyanchenko as Munguia, at last, faces a reputable opponent for the first time in years.
Previewing Edwards-Campos and what it probably will lead to if Edwards wins.
Discussion of the new Hall of Fame class that includes Timothy Bradley Jr., Carl Froch and Rafael Marquez in the modern men’s category. Plus we discuss the merits of other inductees, including Seth Abraham, Tim Ryan, Brad Goodman, Brad Jacobs and Joe Goossen.
The latest on the talks for a December fight in Saudi Arabia between heavyweight stars Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
The impending Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford media tour next week.
Official announcement of the great fight between WBO junior lightweight titlist Emanuel Navarrete and former titleholder Oscar Valdez.
Lightweight contender Isaac Cruz penciled in for the Spence-Crawford PPV.
Ringside memories on the 21st anniversary of the mega heavyweight title fight between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson; the 16th anniversary of the electrifying welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah; and the 11th anniversary of one of the worst, most controversial decisions in boxing history in the first fight between Manny Pacquiao and Bradley.
