Welcome to the Fight Freaks Unite recap podcast coming off a good fight weekend that included heavyweight Joe Joyce’s 11th-round knockout of Joseph Parker to win an interim title in a fantastic fight, Shakur Stevenson’s dominating win over Robson Conceicao and Floyd Mayweather’s second-round knockout of Japanese MMA champion Mikuru Asakura in an exhibition bout.
Here’s what we discussed on this episode (in order):
Unified heavyweight titlist Oleksandr Usyk’s comments about wanting just three more fights before retirement against Tyson Fury, Canelo Alvarez and a farewell bout at home in Kyiv.
The WBA formally ordering Gennadiy Golovkin to defend his middleweight title against “regular” titlist Erislandy Lara.
Gervonta “Tank” Davis’ plea deal stemming from a November 2020 hit-and-run case being denied by the judge and the trial date being set for Dec. 12.
Stevenson’s dominating decision over Conceicao despite having been stripped of his unified junior lightweight titles for failing to make weight and the big crowd he drew. We also talked about outstanding lightweight prospect Keyshawn Davis’ knockout win in the co-feature.
The tremendous battle between Joyce and Parker, who put on a great show, and where Joyce goes now that he is Usyk’s mandatory but that fight is down the road, if it ever happens.
Amanda Serrano’s one-sided featherweight unification win over Sarah Mahfoud and the possibility that a rematch with Katie Taylor could be a problem to make now that Taylor promoter Eddie Hearn has sued Jake Paul, Serrano’s promoter, for $100 million for comments he recently made accusing Hearn of paying off a judge to score for his fighter in multiple bouts.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!
We will be bringing you the weekend recap each Monday. Let me know what you think of the podcast by leaving your comments.
