Podcast: Spence-Crawford PPV, gate success; Oscar Valdez interview

There’s just one notable card on Saturday, the DAZN PPV headlined by Jake Paul against Nate Diaz, which we previewed. We also discussed the big success of the Errol Spence Jr.-Terence Crawford Showtime PPV event. There is also my interview with Oscar Valdez as he gets ready to challenge Emanuel Navarrete for the WBO junior lightweight title on Aug. 12 and T.J.’s interview with Mark Boccardi of PPV.com. We also went over other news items of the week and looked back on the anniversary of the epic 2007 fight of the year.

• Preview of Paul-Diaz as Paul comes off his first defeat to face the former UFC star in a boxing match.

• Preview of undisputed women’s featherweight champion Amanda Serrano’s defense in a rematch with Heather Hardy in the co-feature.

• My extensive interview with two-division titleholder Valdez, who seeks to win a junior lightweight title for the second time against Mexican countryman Navarrete in what many view as a can’t miss fight.

• The WBO ruling that it will allow Jermell Charlo to enter the ring as its junior middleweight champion when he challenges super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez but then he will be stripped and Tim Tszyu will be elevated to full titleholder.

• Devin Haney’s decision to move up to junior welterweight to challenge WBC junior welterweight titlist Regis Prograis while being made WBC lightweight “champion in recess.”

• The postponement of unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev’s defense against Callum Smith due to a bone infection in his jaw.

• Announcement of undisputed women’s junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron’s rematch with Katie Taylor.

• Announcement that Terri Harper will defend the WBA women’s junior middleweight title and go for the vacant WBO belt in a rescheduled bout with former longtime undisputed welterweight champion and pound-for-pound queen Cecilia Braekhus on the Leigh Wood-Josh Warrington undercard.

• T.J.’s interview with Boccardi on streaming the Paul-Diaz event via PPV.com.

• Memories on the 16th anniversary of the 2007 fight of the year, the epic rematch between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez for the WBC junior featherweight title in the second of their four bouts.
