It was an awfully slow boxing weekend but we still had plenty to discuss. We recapped the one world title fight, Thammanoon Niyomtrong’s majority decision to retain the WBA strawweight title against Alex Winwood in Australia. We also covered several notable news items; and we had a good time in our nostalgia segment looking back on the anniversary of some highly significant fights, including the infamous draw in Pernell Whitaker-Julio Cesar Chavez.
Here is what’s on the show (in order):
Recap of Niyomtrong’s tight decision over Winwood thanks to multiple knockdowns that secured the victory and thoughts on what would be an attractive unification fight with Oscar Collazo.
The plans for a Latino-themed Golden Boy Riyadh Season non-pay-per-view card in Saudi Arabia that would be headlined by a Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez-Chris Billam-Smith cruiserweight unification fight.
Top Rank making official that the Arthur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undisputed light heavyweight title fight will be a one-fight show on ESPN+ in the U.S. and what the plans are for the rest of the card.
I will be in Las Vegas covering Canelo-Berlanga. Please upgrade to a paid subscription and make sure you don’t miss any coverage. You’ll also have full access to all posts, the full archive, you can make and read comments and you will help support independent journalism.
Announcement that William Scull and Vladimir Shishkin will meet Oct. 19 in Germany for the IBF super middleweight title stripped from Canelo Alvarez.
Memories on the 31st anniversary of when then-WBC welterweight champion Pernell Whitaker was badly robbed in a draw against fellow legend Julio Cesar Chavez in their huge fight for pound-for-pound supremacy and one of the most controversial decisions in boxing history.
Memories on the 12th anniversary of when Vitali Klitschko knocked out Manuel Charr to retain the WBC heavyweight title and then followed through on his plans to retire.
Ringside memories on the seventh anniversary of the first “Superfly” HBO card that included Srisaket Sor Rungvisai shockingly knocking out Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in their rematch; the U.S. debut of Naoya Inoue; and the outstanding first fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras.
Ringside memories on the 12th anniversary of when unified super middleweight champion Andre Ward scored one of his signature victories in a one-sided 10th-round knockout of then-light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, who dropped down in weight.
Please give it a listen! Also: rate, review, subscribe and enjoy!

Been watching boxing since 1960. Whitaker’s fight with Chavez was biggest robbery I’ve seen. Criminal like.
Whitaker being robbed i am sorry to say is either incompetence of a quite unbelievable level or its corruption, it and the equally terrible draw 6 years later when in their first meeting Lennox Lewis was robbed in an equally staggering way versus Evander Holyfield. Two stand out terrible decisions that ended in draws.
