WBA junior lightweight titleholder Lamont Roach Jr. fulfilled his dream of a homecoming defense and did so in style.
Making his first 130-pound defense, Roach systematically beat down the extremely game Feargal McCrory, dropping him three times and hammering him with left hooks in an eighth-round knockout victory on Friday night in the main event of a NoXcuse Promotions card at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.
The end finally came when McCrory’s corner threw in the towel but before that Roach dazzled with an impressive offensive display matched only by the tremendous heart McCrory showed.
I am in my 25th year of full-time boxing coverage. Take advantage of that experience by upgrading to a paid subscription to read the rest of this post and for full access to all posts and comments — and also support independent journalism.
