Showdown between Munguia, Ryder has action written all over it
Super middleweight contenders have a lot on the line Saturday night

The last time super middleweight contenders Jaime Munguia and John Ryder were in the ring they were in very entertaining, high-contact fights.
Now they are facing each other in another bout that figures to be a thrilling affair for however long it lasts when they meet in the scheduled 12-round main event of a Golden Boy card on Saturday (DAZN, 8 p.m. ET) at the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
“Jaime won fight of the year last year and I am sure that this fight can be a candidate for fight of the year for 2024,” Ryder said. “He’s got an unbelievable record, 42-0, and he’s got the carrot being dangled of (a possible) Canelo (Alvarez) fight, like I had against Zach Parker.
“That adds pressure. You know that is potentially next, so you have to go out there and produce, so it’s down to him now. I’ve had my shot at Canelo. I doubt I’ll get another one if I beat Munguia, but that is the aim, to be in the biggest and best fights possible.”
Munguia, a former WBO junior middleweight titleholder and middleweight contender, moved up to super middleweight in June and announced his arrival in the 168-pound division in an instant classic.
