Jake Paul, the social media influencer and star YouTuber turned novice cruiserweight, has time and again called out unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s biggest star.
As nutty as such a match probably sounds to most, given the massive disparity in experience, ability, accomplishment and size, it is possible this spring in what would be a mega mainstream event given the enormous popularity of both, the tens of millions of dollars their events generate, and their divergent fan bases.
The sides are in the early stages of discussing the fight for this spring — targeted for Las Vegas on May 3, the Cinco de Mayo weekend Mexico’s Alvarez traditionally fights on — multiple sources with knowledge of the talks told Fight Freaks Unite. They stressed the conversations are in the early stages and very preliminary with a variety of things that would be need to be hashed out, not the least of which is the contract weight.
