When Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Frank Martin came face to face inside the media center at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to announce their fight on the day of the Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia bout last month, they were quite animated toward each other.
By the end of the event they were standing on stage next to each clearly disagreeing over what they were viewing on the screen of Davis’ phone.
They were apparently looking at footage of one of their various sparring sessions from yesteryear that took place at the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas.
Now the southpaws will fight for real as Davis will defend the WBA lightweight title for the fifth time against Martin on Saturday (Prime Video PPV, PPV.com, 8 p.m. ET) in the main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card that will be the milestone 100th boxing event to take place inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena, which has hosted dozens of historic bouts.
But while they wait throw down on Saturday, they had their say about those sparring sessions and, as is usually the case in these situations, their recollections differ from each other in terms of who got the better of it.
