When Irish national hero Katie Taylor lost a majority decision challenging Chantelle Cameron for the undisputed women’s junior welterweight title in a sensational battle on May 20, it was a shock to many that she had been defeated in her long-awaited first professional fight in Ireland.
While they were still in the ring after the fierce brawl, Taylor immediately and firmly said she would invoke her contractual right to an immediate rematch.
So, here they are, six months later, ready to do it again as Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, will have her second fight in a row at junior welterweight in an attempt to avenge the razor-close loss that saw two judges score the slugfest 96-94 in Cameron’s favor with one judge having it 95-95.
They will meet in the rematch in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card on Saturday (DAZN, 2 p.m. ET) at 3Arena in Dublin Ireland, the same site as their May 20 thriller, and Taylor knows just how much is at stake.
