With two all-time great fights in the books, Taylor-Serrano III at hand
Friendly rivals expect another slugfest with Taylor's undisputed junior welterweight title on line in Netflix headliner of loaded female card
A note to Fight Freaks Unite readers: I created Fight Freaks Unite in January 2021 and eight months later it also became available for paid subscriptions for additional content — and as a way to help keep this newsletter going and for readers to support independent journalism. Typically, a boxing trilogy occurs because the fighters have split their first two bouts and they and fans seek the finality of the rivalry with a tie-breaking third encounter.
However, even though Katie Taylor is 2-0 against Amanda Serrano both fights between the surefire future Hall of Famers were extremely close with many believing that Serrano should have won the decision in at least one of them, if not both.
Add to the dispute over the results was that both fights were extraordinary action battles that rank with the greatest female bouts in boxing history, and here we are with a trilogy fight at hand.
The friendly rivals will meet for the third time — with Taylor’s undisputed junior welterweight title at stake for the second time — in the main event of Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions all-women’s card that features five world title bouts and an interim title fight on Friday (Netflix, 8 p.m. ET) at New York’s Madison Square Garden, the site of their instant-classic first battle.
