Dan, I think you got that last paragraph wrong. It should read:
"The WBC found that: (1) the check from Mr. Benn's team cleared the WBC account, and (2) the WBC bought a story about contaminated eggs without any scientific evidence and with no burden of proof placed on Mr. Benn."
Benn has found his lifeline among people with similar levels of scruples and integrity. May they live happily ever after.
The WBC not having “strict liability” in its rules imo is making a mockery of its so-called “ clean boxing program”.
Thankfully UKAD and the BBBofC follow WADA rules which do include “strict liability” and so Benn should be held responsible for whatever is found in his body. This could lead to at least a 2 year ban for Benn.
There’s a couple of aspects of this case that I find troubling, in addition to the WBC’s stance on no “strict liability”.
They are….
(1) Benn failed 2 VADA tests taken on July 25th and September 1st.
Are we to believe that Benn just happened to be taking 30 - 34 eggs on both occasions?
(2) If Benn’s explanation for both drug failures was eating a large amount of eggs then why did Benn’s lawyers tell the WBC that the failures must have been due to contamination at the labs involved?
There’s a hell of an eggy fart whiff surrounding Benn and his explanation for these drug failures.
Both bodies only put those statements out to take the temp of the fans and the amount of interest that is still in the story. Once enough time has passed they will allow him to return and those that dont like it can go suck an egg as far as they are concerned. or is it suck a lime in this case. ?
I get your point John, this is how things usually go. I'd like to make two points about the Benn case as it stands at the moment...
(1) The amount of Clomiphene found in Benn's samples by VADA was very small.
This may have been due to him using the drug to increase his testosterone and the sample was taken after the end of a cycle or it may be due to him eating a load of eggs in an effort to put weight on for the Eubank Jr fight and not a lot of Clomiphene is absorbed from the eggs.
Even if it's the former of these two possibilities, Benn is by no means as big a cheat as the likes of Jarrell Miller - it seems that some fans are looking on him as if he is.
(2) Once an expert nutritionist told the WBC that it was possible that the drug had come from eggs, the WBC had to find him not guilty mainly because "strict liability" is not in its rules - in other words fighters are NOT held responsible for what ends up in their bodies. They still have to be able to make a reasonable excuse for the presence of any banned drug of course (this can sometimes give some an instant excuse when they were actually doping).
However the situation with UKAD & the BBBofC is different as they use WADA rules that includes "strict liability" so fighters ARE responsible for what ends up in their bodies. As Benn fights out of the UK he is signed up to these rules.
This means that if a fighter can give a reasonable explanation for the presence of a banned drug in their sample they'll get a 2 year ban - if they can't they get 4 years.
BTW this goes for each PED in the sample - so if you have no excuse for 3 PEDs in your sample, you get a 12 year ban.
At this moment, without further information, I can't see how Benn won't get a 2 year ban from the BBBofC. He'll probably challenge this in the courts but I don't think he'll be successful.
Benn could go over to the US but only if the US commissions didn't adhere to the BBBofC ban.
I hear you and good solid facts all much appreciated. I could say why do people question Ben ?
Is it how he carries himself or is it just the tide of disguest that runs thru boxing who knows. > ? Look at Saul he got dirty and was not even given a bad reputation following for all intent and purpose that is. Sure think it has a lot to do with the politics of boxing. How fighters are controlling the narritive so to speak. Maybe I should use the words how promoters and platforms are controlling the narative would be to the point. From the mouth of promoters and platforms to the pens of the writers often happens. Lead the masses. Good stuff glad to read it.
As far as i know this drug is not present in UK eggs and i'm pretty sure its not in use with chickens in the EU too so we would have to believe he imported them and that's on top of eating more eggs than all the entrants to the last Mr Universe bodybuilding competition ate.. This clearly stinks and shouts bullshit to me. The WBC is all about money whilst ethics feature very little.
