Canelo lost the first Golovkin fight in everyone's eyes except Mexicans, Don Trella & Adalaide Byrd.
Therefore this not losing since 2013 business isn't true in the eyes of the vast majority of the boxing world. Everything about the third Canelo vs Golovkin fight strikes me as similarly unfair to Gennadiy.
Firstly, If Canelo genuinely thinks he won the first 5 or 6 rounds against Bivol then he must have CTE or some other brain malady. Those of us on The Ring & Bad Left Hook forums, including journalists, struggled to give Canelo four rounds in the whole Bivol fight and the fact that all 3 of the supposedly competent and unbiased judges could return exactly the same 113 - 115 scorecards is more than a little suspicious.
This means the fact that tonight's judging panel contains two of the judges from the Bivol fight, Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld, can hardly fill Team Golovkin with joy.
What's more over the past four years Canelo repeatedly refused to make a third fight with Golovkin - however he suddenly changed his mind when Golovkin hit 40 and insisted that Gennadiy move up from 160lbs, the weight he's been at throughout his pro career, to 168lbs. The fact that Golovkin fought at 165.25 lbs as an amateur 17+ years ago, when he was only 23 or younger, is irrelevant to the current fight - fighting at 168lbs favours Canelo.
In fact the whole situation favours Canelo - ages, weight, judges. If Golovkin wins the fight tonight it will be a remarkable achievement and the win over Canelo that he's deserved however I suspect he won't and he could even be stopped.
I've no doubt that Reynoso and Canelo will be keen to exploit such a win by claiming it shows that Golovkin was always inferior to Canelo.
